INTRODUCTION
Madagascar is often called the Continent Island, the Red Island or the EighthContinent. It is part of African Union. The country hosts about 12.000 species of plants 70/80% of which are endemic. The flora of Madagascar is therefore, one of the most important and diversified in the entire world.
FLORA
Different species of Baobab, carnivorous plants and about 1.000 different orchids. In Madagascar there are many well-known officinal plants, which are studied everywhere internationally. Essential oils from cinnamon, cloves, niaouli, ylang-ylang, geranium, lemongrass and many others are very appreciated.
CURRENCY
The local currency is Ariary, middle curse (1 Euro = 3.500 MGA). VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards are used only on main cities and the best hotels. Usually payments with credit cards imply an increase by 5%. ATM are available only on main cities. A maximum of 400.000 MGA can be with drawn.

CLIMATE
There is a dry season (from April to November) and a rainy season (from December to March). However regions can be very different. Humid in the East and Dry in the South.
FAUNA
Lemurs are the main attraction of the country. There are the most beautiful chameleons in the world together with butterflies, rare birds, reptiles, and all the amazing life underwater.
VISA AND CUSTOM FORMALITIES
The entrance visa is issued on arrival at the international airports of Antananarivo and Nosy Be. The fee for a stay of less of 30 days is usually 125.000 (about 35 euros according to current exchange rate, but it can vary at arrival). Payment is to be done cash. In order to enter the country, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months after arrival.
